The Baseball Codes

Join us Sunday post-game for a book signing event! Michael Duca, contributing author of The Baseball Codes will be here after the Giants take on the Cardinals.

The Baseball Codes — colloquially referred to as the unwritten rules of the game — comprise the methods players use to police themselves and each other. It’s a moral code that, on and off the field, is used to keep the game pure.

‘Giants Past and Present’ Book Signing Event

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, April 20th for a book signing event! Dan Fost, author of the new must-have Giants coffee table book – Giants Past & Present will be here starting at 5:30 PM. The Giants play San Diego on the road at 7:05 PM – let’s form a cheering section!

With a history that straddles two coasts and more than a century of winning, the Giants baseball club stands out as one of the great franchises of professional sports. The organization boasts more Hall of Fame inductees than any other baseball team, as well as twenty National League pennants gathered over nine different decades. From McGraw and Mathewson to Mays and Marichal, Hubbell and Ott to Sandoval and Lincecum, the Giants have been bringing excitement and drama to the diamond for generations. Giants Past & Present goes around the horn to celebrate the legends at each position on the field—from the little-remembered stars of the nineteenth century to the heroes of tomorrow—and visits the memorable and distinctive ballparks that have housed the team on two ends of the continent. The book presents the players, dugout and front-office wizards, voices from the broadcast booth, hard-luck heroes, ballparks, and myriad rites of spring that keep fans coming back year after year.

Keg Wall

One of the major design elements (and coolest in our opinion) for Public House is the floor to ceiling wall of kegs that will divide the beer bar from the panoramic TV viewing area. Here are some photos showing the install:

Mijita, Meet Al Pastor

Last week Traci, John, Thom, Lisa, and Greg ventured across the border to do some research in Mexico City.

They tasted mescal, a form of tequila from an agave plant at Bolica Mezcaleria…

…and saw some great art in the bathroom.

Found Public House’s Mexican sister location…and sampled tequila and enjoyed the lights.

But the main goal of the trip was to research al pastor pork dishes. It’s a Mexico City original dish of pork, which has been marinating for two days in a blend of different chili peppers, spices and herbs and then slowly cooked with a gas flame on a vertical rotisserie called a trompovery similar to how shawarma is cooked.

They found it at the “Holy Grail” of Al Pastor, Taqueria Del Pastorina. The owner shared tips and tricks while the team sampled and observed.

Walls and windows – oh my!

Say good-bye to chilly days and nights on the Public House patio! The crew installed glass walls this week. There will also be an awning and heated patio. Cocktails, please!

The great wall is now solid and there is a grand pass-through between the two restaurants.

Also, our new beer bar is looking good!

And Mijita has a counter!

SF Beer Week

Did you know it is SF Beer Week?

Our team took part in the SF Brewers Guild Gala opening festivities on Friday night at Yerba Buena Center.  Over 30 Northern California craft brewers were sampling their beers – many of whom will appear on the Public House beer list.

We also snacked on Chichcarrones and gourmet sausages from 4505 Meats. Look for them along with other artisanal sausages on the Public House menu.

Festivities continue through Valentines day. Check out www.sfbeerweek.org  for the lineup!

Takin’ a TV Timeout

One of the key elements to a great sports bar, is of course, great TV.  Do not fear my friends, at Public House, we will have 30 televisions. This week, crews installed the electric and brackets for our glorious electronic windows to the world.

The Great Wall of Public House and Mijita

Up from the dust, a wall has grown at the construction site for the new Public House and Mijita. The wall (just a skeleton here) runs parallel to 3rd Street and will be the great divide of the two restaurants.

This photo shows the doorway that will link the two sister spots for hours of queso fundido and  jalapeño popper fun. Cheese, please!

The front doors of the former ACME Chophouse will be the main doors for Public House. Mijita will have a main entrance on 3rd Street.

We are very excited about this GIANT (almost four times the height of our Marketing Director!) new addition to our space.

Behind the yellow tape

Behind the yellow tape and craft paper covered windows at the corner of King & 3rd streets, crews are working hard to prepare the space for construction. We were able to snap a few demolition photos to give you some insight into the exciting changes.

The former ACME kitchen will transform into the Public House kitchen while crews will build an entirely new kitchen for Mijita near the old “Say Hey” room space along 3rd Street.

A new wall is being constructed, and will run parallel to 3rd street to split the two spaces. There will be a pass-through between the two restaurants making it easy to move from restaurant to restaurant to eat your taco and your sliders together! Our mouth is already watering…
